Nice explanation Dom. In my 72 years following the Hawks the scientific evolution of the game and the terminology has been significant. Thanks for the explanation which helps. I am greedy I want another flag in my lifetime 😁
Thanks Dom, fascinating analysis. The stats tell us what's happened / happening, but it's another thing to explain why it's happened/happening - you've done an awesome job. One of the big things is the time it takes to bed down a game plan and it seems to be ~ 2-3years. Think of Ross Lyon when he joined StKilda, Clarko when he joined us, Simpson at West Coast for example. Macrae and Collingwood are an outlier, perhaps die to the relative experience of their playing group. The pleasing aspect of Saturday's win was that it was convincing - it was the sort of win that good sides have against poor sides. Further to that, the wins against Bulldogs and Lions now seem to perhaps have a bit more currency - evidence that the game plan stacks up against the better sides.
It’s now happening on a consistent basis which is the key to long term improvement and success. It’s also important when looking at things to not look at just the result, and to make sure you’re looking at the process of the result, to better find an answer. The process is more important than the result, as the result isn’t possible without the process.
I have observed the effectiveness of our defensive handball to a second, third or even fourth player but never had it all so well explained. Thankyou for the insightful explanation. As a 44 year female member I think I might get to go to another grand final 💖
So good Dom, what a debut 🙌🏻

I’m sure you’ll get another, the evolution is key to what footy is nowadays, it’s incredible to adapt and evolve.
Thanks Dominic for a great article. Not sure whether to call the diamond structure the 'Mitchell Maul', Mitchell Maneuver' or 'Sam's Tsunami'!
I’m sure something will be made up by the media and ran with 😆 but intriguing nonetheless.
Nice insights Dom
Look forward to seeing this unfold against the Tigers
Thanks mate! Also excited 🙏

Awesome content. Keen to have a look at today's game and see if I can notice it
Eyes peeled 👀👀
Great insight. I knew there was more to it then just ‘hunting the ball quickly’ as David King referred to.
The media can only do so much for every team, Hawthorn will get more lime light eventually.

I would suggest very likely you will be able to! It’s good to bring insight into performance ✍️
