The media hype regarding our run and gun game plan (layman's terms) is really playing into Sammy's hands. They are starting to create this aura and a sense of invincibility about our young super impressive team. We can't downplay the effect on the opposition's psyche leading into game day. Some of our passages of play can be breathtaking so say the least. The Hawks are primed for finals footy and in such an open campaign anything is possible!
Nat, once again you have written an amazing analysis. The Hawks should look you up ;)
Great analysis and super read. This is the reason why I always sit on Level 4 for our games.
Eventually, teams will develop strategies to combat our aggressive style of play and the only way I feel this can be done is by opposition stepping up their back half pressure to an elite level to force a turn over. This would also require the opposition really digging in, having a big tank and work rate to execute.
At the moment, some of the kicks we are biting off are absolutely sublime due to the fact of our players work rate in making space, ensuring the kicker can hit them with as less pressure on them as possible.
It's only a matter of time before an opposition team will combat this, and then it will be up to Sam to have a Plan B.
In the mean time, we're just super pretty to watch at moment - and I'm enjoying it all.
yep, work rate is hard to play against but you need to chop off our supply off half back. manic forward pressure is the way to do this - but you’ve gotta beat us at contest to deny first use too. Carlton did the contest bit pretty well in the first half but their forward pressure was non existent
Well written and fantastic article on our fast paced ball movement.
I too noticed the players running patterns from defence.
Huge shout out to Burge and his fitness team on their fitness.
Huge shout out to the youngsters for jumping on board.
The difference between round 5 play to now is staggering to say the least.
That spring air is almost upon us, I can smell it.
To think this team will most likely be part of it is incredible.
I said 8 weeks ago this has a touch of 2008 all over it.
If we make it, anything can happen 🤎💛
Awesome read, well done Nat.
Now we just have to mark this TOP SECRET and keep it away from the opposition...
haha i’d hope opposition AFL analysts could be able to identify this with their 1000s of behind the goals cameras!
if a very average ammo’s footballer sitting on level 4 can pick it up im sure they can 😂
Great article Nat. Very knowledgeable and extremely informative.

Running Wild.
