He’s definitely a good ruck option. He’s a number one ruck though, which might impact the games and game time that Reeves gets. It’s a tricky one to find balance on.
Also, I'm a bit out of step with this salary dumping for minimal pick compensation. I can't make sense of parting with Mitchell to save cap space. How could we possibly be in any danger of not having cap space (given the state of our list)? Any explanation of how this works? I completely understand if we were getting a reasonable pick for him.
Cheers Paul. The salary dump really only applies if the club is hard up against the salary cap, which Hawthorn definitely are not. The issue with Mitchell is that he is inflexible in the style of play and it doesn't mesh with what Sam is trying to implement, and he prohibits players like Ward, Macdonald and co. playing extra minutes in midfield.
I don't think they'll move him on unless they get what they believe to be fair compensation for him. We might think that looks like a pick in the 20's, they might think it's a pick in the 30's and the list freedom it gives them to do other things.
That makes complete sense, thanks for that. The article I read was saying we would move him on as a way of dumping salary and we were not interested in a reasonable draft pick, clearly not accurate
I definitely think Lawrence will be considered with a late pick. He’s shown some good signs this season and is a late developer. Plenty to work with if they decide to go down that path.
These are all thoughts that are going through my head Frank, and I would be staggered if they’re not going through Mark McKenzie’s also.
My thoughts are that we should always be trying to actively improve our draft hand for this year and next. If we have to trade out senior players to do that, then so be it.
I like the fit of Bruhn and Henry, if I had to choose I think if we can jag Henry as part of any Mitchell trade, that would be ideal.
Thoughts on Meek from Freo (wants out) to support Reeves? Very handy player, coming into his prime.

Thanks Daniel.

Let's hope we land Bowes + pick 7!
Fingers and toes crossed for Bowes to nominate us. It's the deal we need in this window.
With Callow being delisted could Jerome Lawrence son of Stephen be an option,I don't think he will go top 30 so that's not an issue

Wud offer Gunston 3 ! We can’t afford to lose him ! Jeka to
Me shows more potential as a key back than Blanche. Minimum 2 years for Jeka
I think Gunston will probably get a two year deal, whether at Hawthorn or elsewhere.
Jeka will only get a one year extension, which gives him the ability to prove himself as a defender over pre-season and into 2023.
Danny - what do you think Hawthorn's objectives are/should be around Draft and Trade?
Draft.
Right now we have 6, 24, 50, 61 and 78
We want to keep 6 - but do we want to/can we improve it? And/or pick-up 1 more in the Top 30?
Having 3 picks in Top 30 could be a goal
Trade
Trade Mitchell?
Pick-up a forward like Henry? Pick-up a mid like Bruehn? Are these either/or? Which is priority?
Use Brockman as a trade for a pick?
