In terms of the back 6, Sic, Hardwick and Weddle can move further up the field if we add to the backline. Would WCE take DGB for Barass 🤔 Hoping Serong gets a red hot go in 2025 and that he has a huge pre season. I really hope we get Battle, will cost nothing and he was a Hawk supporter as a kid. I wanted to raise a topic that I have felt has been hanging around all year - the unnecessary criticism of Mabior Chol from the Hawthorn faithful and wider football world. Big Mabs was brought in as a second string key tall to compliment Mitch Lewis. It was seen as a gamble. Not only has he taken on the mantle of #1 but he has also excelled in forward pressure and mentoring young Calsh to play an impactful role in his first season.
Yet, throughout the season, the Hawks faithful and commentators use labels like “lazy”, “laconic” and “lackadaisical”. Given his immense forward pressure these adjective are “ludicrous”. I can’t help but think these sorts of terms are afforded to him because of his skin colour. There are a heap of players around the League (and our club’s history) that play with similar tempo and technique but aren’t described like this. I think it’s important that we collectively acknowledge our unconscious bias and start to drop the use of stereotypes.
Let’s just speak positively about Mabs. Let’s talk positively about all our footballers without falling into use of stereotypes. As a club, we need to do better on this.
I agree Simon. Not saying it was anyone in the HI community but I definately felt that these accusations of laziness / laconic etc were poorly disguised racial tropes. 100s of Players with worse stats in these areas get a free pass but he never did.
Even if we don’t make the 8 very satisfied with the year….however I have not enjoyed the commentary on our game one bit…what is with brereton and his obsession with the size of players and the lack of genuine credit and Healy going on about our smalls trying to milk bs free kicks ..anything to do with the fact we get to the ball first? ….sorry about the rant

Simon, the references on Mabior are entirely due to the way in which he plays football.
