You didn’t mention Chad Wingard under any of your headings. I really wonder if we need him. With Brockman, Butler and even maybe Impey you could argue we have that small forward position covered. If we could get some currency for him I’d let him go.
Thanks for your comment Graeme, I purposefully left off all of our contracted players (Wingard included) as I will be doing a deep dive into those players in the coming weeks. You're not alone in that thinking though.
Chad's really tough because when he's on he is just so good. The way he delivers into the forward 50 is a joy to behold. If he's fit you are picking him in 2022 and 2023. I think he's needed next year but not in 2024 by then McDonald will be the one who pushes him out.
I would have thought McDonalds future is more midfield. He's a clean handler of the ball and has a good engine. With Chad if he's not going to be there in 2024 why keep him? By then he'll have no currency. I acknowledge at his best he's very good but he's too hit and miss for me and from a team point of view I hate some of his onfield body language.
I think you'll find Butler will be a more natural Wingard replacement. Butler probably ends up a 70% forward, 30% midfielder like Chad is. Macdonald probably ends up a 80% midfielder in my opinion.
There's a way I see Wingard not on our list next season, but you'll have to wait until the next piece for that!
My "award" for the "nice surprise, didn't think he could become that good" goes to Harry Morrison. He's been one of our most consistent players, performing at a good to high level most weeks. I agree, he deserves another contract, and a very respectable one given the work he's obviously put in.
He's far and away exceeded my expectations of him, that's for sure. He deserves a 2-3 year contract on the back of what he has delivered this season. I think his spot is eventually taken by someone with a more damaging/complete game, but what a great stop gap/depth player to have on the list.

Mid forward yes - for CMac and that's also a fit Chad's go.
These boys CMac, Butler etc. are not ready in 2023 to fly completely solo.
They will need some support - Chad's a really good player. And he adds something very good when he's up and about.
And as Danny said he contracted through 2023

Fit Wingard would play more in the mid field
The version we have yes - I see what you are saying
But for me CMac...if he comes on will fill the hole that Clarko thought he was filling when we brought Chad on.
Point of clarification
I thought HI was beating the drums to trade out DGB, axe Kosi and find some value - draft picks or a trade - for the disappointing Will Day????
Or is that just the Bradster?
It's definitely not me, I'm a huge DGB fan and I think Kosi will come good. Will Day is a jet and will prove it too. Just Brad I think Frank
