It was apparent that Hawthorn’s draft strategy under Sam Mitchell and Mark McKenzie has a foundation built on the four P’s - pace, power, precision and personality.

This was evidenced in the bumper 2021 draft, with the impressive Josh Ward, Sam Butler, Connor MacDonald, Jai Serong and Ned Long - all showcasing their strengths in these various areas on the way to making their respective marks on the playing list and the football field.

And it was clear again over the past two days.

Hawthorn’s haul at the end of the second night at the draft table spoke volumes of exactly what attributes are important to have in order to end up at the club.

The players brought into the club fit into one or more of these categories.
