One area that the club has much work to do on is transparency.
Surely a foundation tenant for good governance.
I don’t remember any communication to members about board nominations.
There appears to have been an active policy of disengagement with members when it comes to matters involving the make up of the board and who is President.
Off the back of the recent revelations this attitude of just “trust us” we know what we’re doing is pretty baffling to say the least.
I'm looking forward to an opportunity to exercise my vote, and I definitely think the board needs some freshening up. I think the whole process involving Nankivell becoming the endorsed candidate for President, while also being the person chairing the process to choose that candidate, was as dodgy as hell. It seems clear cut to me that Andrew Gowers and the group lobbying for change at Hawthorn were lied to and that makes me pretty angry. As someone who has a vivid memory of Kennett as Premier, I'm not in the mood to cut him or his mates any slack. I'm not necessarily going to vote against all the incumbent board members, but I'll definitely vote for change. Given that Peter Nankivell indicated that he only reluctantly accepted the endorsement for President, I imagine he'll step aside prior to the poll so that will be the first reform!
I’m a Jeff fan. Some of the comments about him in his role as HFC President unfortunately are tainted with the political brush. There’s no doubt his forthright style can turn people off but in this day and age of hyper criticism generally I think he’s done a pretty good job and the last decade and a half has been very successful in and off the field. But he’s going now so we need to put our positive energy into deciding what’s a good Board for this club and who should be President. For my two bobs worth Peter Nankivell is a reluctant nominee. I think he’s stated at some point he doesn’t really aspire to the job. So for me he is not the person to lead the club. Hawks Insiders please do your due diligence and give us the facts about the nominees. Go Hawks
Yes, I thought it was interesting.

Spot on Andrew. The club has a fair bit of work to do in the communications space, that’s for sure.
The fact that Gowers only just got his nomination papers lodged in time because he had to chase the deadline date for them, speaks volumes.
