Hawthorn’s High Performance Manager Peter Burge has settled back into life at Bunjil Bagora and after a year back at the club, is understandably excited about what lies ahead in season 2024 for this Hawthorn list.
And why wouldn’t he be? Part of the regeneration of our list and the reinvigorated player development programs, Burge’s fingerprints are all over our current rebuild.
Speaking to Hawks Insiders on the eve of the club’s intraclub hitout on February 15, Burge opened the doors and let us inside to get a taste of how things are progressing from a high-performance point of view at the club.
Burge joined Danny and Darren and for an hour the trio spoke about:
The development of Josh Ward and the work he has done to add a serious burst of speed and acceleration to his armoury;
The rise and rise of CJ - noting how good he is looking at the moment and what he learnt in Dubai with Andrew Lambert;
Excitement around Mabior Chol, his growth and maturity, and their connection having worked together at the Tigers;
How Chad Wingard is tracking in his injury rehabilitation;
The curios case of Denver Grainger-Barras, a player that Burge describes as a power and speed athlete;
The insatiable appetite of the playing list and how they are collectively desperate for success;
And much much more.
