Hawthorn’s new High Performance Manager Peter Burge has only been at Hawthorn for a few months but he likes what he sees.

Speaking to Hawks Insiders on the eve of the club’s intraclub hitout on February 15, Burge gave an update on the likes of Mitch Lewis, Emerson Jeka, Josh Morris, new recruit Karl Amon and Chad Wingard, who was had a number of interrupted pre-seasons since joining from Port Adelaide in 2019.

Burge, Burge, Burge is the word

He also spoke about:

  • The players who have caught his eye since he joined from Richmond after a successful, Premiership-winning stint;

  • The new training methods he’s implemented since joining;

  • How’s he had to temper the enthusiasm of the likes of Josh Ward and Ned Long on the training track;

  • The overall athleticism of the list;

  • The running power of Josh Weddle;

  • The “dynamic acceleration” of Changkuoth Jiath; and

  • The young rookie who has taken him by surprise.
