Nat, you’re a man after my own heart. Can’t stand the bombers and I’ve had a sick feeling all week that they might pinch this one . I’m one of these strange people who doesn’t watch games on tv it’s in the flesh or the radio for me ( which probably dates me ) I’ve everything crossed for tonight and hope my Hawks LIFT! Barrack hard Insiders !
Great stuff Nat. I have a special hate for Essendon, notwithstanding several of my good mates are supporters. Even share housed with an EFC footballer while at uni. '84 was a disaster and '85 much worse, although those two defeats probably laid the groundwork for the incredible era which followed.
Those a few years younger label the Cats as the ultimate nemesis. They definitely annoy me, however I also respect their continued success.
Let's just hope we turn up tonight as I don't need the snide comments for the next few weeks about what is 'wrong' at Hawthorn!!!
Well to be perfectly honest, this has been a week that I would rather forget after feeling totally FLAT and VERY disappointed after the game finished last Saturday ... then the news of Moorey and CMac's antics in USA didn't help either. BUT I've always been a person that will stick by our Club "through thick and thin" and in "good and bad times" so bring on tonight's game (albeit I too, am feeling a tiny bit nervous and seriously hope that the boys can turn things around)!!!
It is only a game but like many others, I live, eat and breathe the brown and gold (and now Hawk Insiders since joining this amazing group) so thank you Nat for this great article by providing your thoughts and feelings toward the bombers. I'm very interested how the "Zach Merrett" situation will unfold tonight by how each team's supporters react ... will there be booing or cheering or both?
Nat, finally I would like to wish you and your wife (and your little girl as a big sister) all the very best for the impending arrival of another "little hawka bubba" as when it's all said and done FAMILY should always come first.
Great piece Nat. Totally agree the games I pencil in for win each season regardless are Essendon, Geelong, West Coast and Fremantle. West Coast and Fremantle because as a WA Hawk it gives me bragging rights and shuts up people I see every day. Totally agree with your sentiments about Geelong. Don't like them but respect what they get done as a club and well you captured all my reasons for not like the Dirty Rottens. Hopefuly we stick it up em tonight at the MCG and you will hear me from WA screaming at my TV. Go Hawks
Love this Nat - It had everything but the “line in the sand”…… that moment literally saved me, I hadn’t been enjoying footy. We had been insipid for years and then, that speech, that line and then the carnage. Didn’t matter that we lost, the passion returned and the rest is history 🏆🏆🏆🏆
But wait - 2004, Lloyd’s “Sniper Hit” on Sewell, surely that was the moment where every young Hawk learned how to HATE Essendon as much as their parents and grandparents did. I seriously wanted Lloyd killed. Of all players to take out, he hits Sewell who I cannot recall ever being a dirty player. And I still don’t buy any of Lloyd’s BS excuses to this day.
I may have to tear down the Ponsford Stand if we lose tonight - Am NOT confident at all.
Loathe this scumbag club, we’d better crack in tonight

That 2001 prelim is my oldest football memory, the scars run deep with this mob and no matter how much I age, my hatred will not yield 🤣🤣🤣🤣

GO HAWKS!!!
I agree with every blessed word Nat. Prior to the 2008 GF, the only one I'd been to was 1984 😭😠
