It is not so much a case that Peter Burge is coming to Hawthorn as high performance manager, it is that he coming back to Hawthorn.

A-well-a everybody's heard about the Burge.

When Alastair Clarkson took over as coach in late 2004, he was given carte blanche to sweep clean all aspects of the club’s medical, high performance and sports science. Programs.

He enlisted the services of what was then the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre which is how the highly-regarded Michael Makdissi and his team came to the club.

Clarkson took an immediate pay cut so that the club had the cash to bring others such as David Rath, a bio-mechanist from the AIS with a flair for innovation and strategy, and Andrew Russell, the fitness coach from that year’s Port Adelaide premiership team.
